The full schedule was announced on December 6, 2025, unveiling pairings for non-host teams. The schedule by round includes: 

Group stage

  • Matchday 1 — June 11–17
  • Matchday 2 — June 18–23

Knockout stage

  • Round of 32 — June 28–July 3
  • Round of 16 — July 4–7
  • Quarterfinals — July 9–11

The 2026 edition is the first FIFA World Cup to be cohosted by three countries. The tournament will take place across sixteen cities — two in Canada, three in Mexico, and eleven in the USA.

Here’s the venue breakdown: 

  • USA: Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Boston (Gillette Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), Houston (NRG Stadium), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium), Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), San Francisco Bay Area (Levi's Stadium), and Seattle (Lumen Field)
  • Mexico: Guadalajara (Estadio Akron), Mexico City (Estadio Azteca), and Monterrey (Estadio BBVA) 
  • Canada: Toronto (BMO Field) and Vancouver (BC Place) 

AT&T Stadium in Dallas is the largest stadium in the NFL, with a seating capacity of over 82,000, expandable to over 100,000 with standing room. MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is the largest stadium by seating capacity, with 82,500 permanent seats. SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles has 70,000 seats, which can be expanded up to 100,000 for major events. 

Estadio Azteca in Mexico City has a capacity of 87,523, making it the largest stadium in Latin America. The smallest venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is BMO Field, which has been expanded to 45,736 seats for the championship.

 

FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremonies

 

Following the expansion to three host countries, the tournament has three opening ceremonies — in Mexico City, Toronto, and Los Angeles, featuring live performances by global artists. 

Tyla, J Balvin, Danny Ocean, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, and more are set to perform at the opening ceremony in Mexico City on June 11 at Estadio Banorte. The opening ceremony in Toronto takes place on June 12 at BMO Field, featuring Alessia Cara, Michael Bublé, Jessie Reyez, Elyanna, and more. The opening ceremony in Los Angeles also takes place on June 12 at SoFi Stadium and features Katy Perry, Future, Lisa, Tyla, and more.

Ticket sales are available on the official FIFA World Cup website. Fans need to sign in to the website to purchase tickets. The Last-Minute Sales Phase began on April 1 and runs until July 19. The event also features hospitality packages.

The 2026 World Cup marks a new format with an expansion from 32 to 48 teams. The total number of matches also increased from 64 to 104, making the 2026 edition significantly larger and more eventful. This is the first World Cup expansion since 1998. Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan are set to debut at the World Cup, while Canada, Mexico, and the USA automatically qualified as host countries.

2026 FIFA World Cup Prize Money

 

In 2026, the total prize pool is $871 million — almost twice as large as in previous competitions. Each team receives a $10 million qualification payment and a $2.5 million preparation fee in addition to prize money.
